Case Studies
The following are examples of organisations that Ki-Rin has supported:
Equality in accessing primary care services
Access to primary care should be available to all communities. However, research shows that experiences of access and take up of services often vary among different sections of the community. Evidence points to the fact that Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities often face disadvantages in accessing primary care services.
Ki-Rin was commissioned by NHS Richmond to test this in the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames. In conjunction with the Charity, Richmond Borough Mind, a team of community researchers were appointed to help conduct research in the communities in relation to access, information and service take up. The results showed that people from BME communities experienced poorer service provision.

"As a result of Ki-Rin's input, NHS Richmond has been able to plan work in accordance with evidence-based research and best practice, giving us access to in-depth, reliable up-to-date guidance about our local community needs and profile.
We have found KI-RIN a great organisation to work with this project delivering to timely deadlines, very professional and also great fun to work with. We hope to continue to work with the organisation in the future. From experience of working on this project we would not hesitate to recommend them."

Fundraising for success
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the international Animal Rights Charity, approached Ki-Rin to help implement a Diaspora Giving strategy and provide input in its business planning process for the fundraising department. This led to the appointment of a Diaspora Giving Manager whose role was to connect PETA’s campaigns with the British Indian Diaspora communities, and to raise profile and funds from them. Ki-Rin provided further support in interim management and in helping to appoint a Fundraising Director to move the income generation strategy forward.
"They provided us with much needed guidance and support to help manage all of our fundraising activities in the UK. Their approach, knowledge and experience added great value in moving our strategy forward"
Senior Vice President for Development, the PETA Foundation

Organisational Development
Ki-Rin has been supporting Terence Higgins Trust (THT), the leading and largest HIV and sexual health Charity in the UK, as part of its Organisational Development (OD) programme for African Community organisations. This has been through the delivery of structured training and Action Learning Sets for community organisations based in London, in the areas of partnership development, business planning, networking & volunteering, and fundraising. The aim of the OD programme has been to build the capacity of African community organisations through mentorship, training and development.
Partnership working
Over the years Ki-Rin has partnered with the Resource Alliance (RA), a UK based agency that provides an international perspective on income generation and capacity building issues to leaders across the NGO sector. Ki-Rin’s consultants have worked on projects, for several organisations. For Oxfam India, a feasibility study was conducted to ascertain the views of the British Indian Diaspora communities in their view to giving back to the homeland; a fundraising plan and case for support were developed for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB); and an income generation plan developed for the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research (UNICRI) to raise sustainable income as part of a three year growth strategy.
"One of our preferred consultancies to partner with, who have a great approach to getting under the skin of the organisations we engage with. Highly personable, competent and professional."
Deputy CEO, Resource Alliance
Promoting mental well-being to diverse communities
The South West London St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust provides mental health and social care services to residents of five London Boroughs. Ki-Rin worked with the Trust to help launch the annual Happy Soul film festival in Richmond, aimed to raise awareness of mental ill health in Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities. This involved the coordination of activities within community settings and, through partnership with Odeon, the showing of movies carrying mental health themes.
Business development
The Council for Arab-British Understanding (CAABU) provides a positive approach to the understanding of Arab-British relations. Ki-Rin was commissioned to develop a business plan and fundraising strategy to help the organisation secure sustainable income from diverse sources. This involved planning and facilitating an Away Day for the Board of Trustees and working with the organisational Director to help implement the plans.
"We have found them to be personable, thorough, with a commanding knowledge of the sector"

Training and facilitation
Through a partnership with the internationally renowned Sandler Sales Institute, Ki-Rin launched a unique programme that introduced a revolutionary approach for charities to engage effectively with communities they served. Over 100 organisational leaders and managers participated, learning new tools and techniques for getting ‘buy-in’ from donors, prospects, volunteers and beneficiaries. This provided Ki-Rin with the impetus to develop a leadership development programme for Charity executives, to be launched in early 2010 with Blue-Ochre.
